Spring is here, and with it comes one of the season’s peskiest visitors, mosquitoes. To help residents fight back, the City of Suffolk is offering free mosquito dunks to local residents as part of its seasonal mosquito control efforts.
Mosquito Dunks are a biological pesticide designed to kill mosquito larvae before they become biting adults. The dunks work by targeting larvae in standing water, such as ditches, ponds, birdbaths, or any container where water tends to collect. Once placed, each dunk remains effective for up to 30 days.
These handy little discs are safe for pets and wildlife and are an easy, effective way for residents to take part in controlling the mosquito population right in their own backyards.
In addition to using mosquito dunks, residents are encouraged to eliminate breeding grounds by regularly emptying and cleaning items like:
-
Flower pots and saucers
-
Buckets
-
Kiddie pools
-
Bird baths
-
Clogged gutters
-
Old tires
The city’s free Mosquito Dunks are available while supplies last, so residents are encouraged to pick them up soon and get a head start on mosquito season.
For more information about where to get your free mosquito dunks, contact the City of Suffolk’s Mosquito Control Division or visit the city’s official website. Let’s keep those bites at bay and enjoy the outdoors this season!
