The Norfolk SPCA will open the region’s first dedicated, high-volume, low-cost spay/neuter clinic in June, 2021.

According to a press release, the new Community Spay/Neuter Clinic will double the current spay/neuter capacity, allowing the shelter to provide surgeries for over 13,000 animals annually. The Norfolk SPCA’s efforts will dramatically decrease euthanasia as a means of population control, lower the number of animals entering shelters, and support positive community engagement functions like adoption, fostering, and transport programs.

Under construction and scheduled to open in the spring, the Community Spay/Neuter Clinic will occupy 3,000 square feet of space in the Roosevelt Gardens Shopping Center on East Little Creek Road. The strategic relocation of the Community Spay/Neuter Clinic allows the Norfolk SPCA to implement a modern, focused, and sustainable veterinary business model that meets the community’s need for greater access to affordable services.

In addition to spay/neuter services, the Community Spay/Neuter Clinic will also function as the new location for the Norfolk SPCA’s low-cost vaccines and wellness exam services. These much-needed services provide preventative care to more than 15,000 patients each year. Relocating these services within the new clinic will nearly double the available service hours, and relieve the bottleneck of clients waiting to be scheduled for other procedures.
