Lewis Capaldi revealed on Instagram Live that he’s been diagnosed with Tourette syndrome.
The 25-year-old singer-songwriter shared, “I wanted to speak about it because I didn’t want people to think I was taking cocaine or something.
“My shoulder twitches when I am excited, happy, nervous or stressed. It is something I am living with,” he explained.
Capaldi says that sometimes when people notice it, they accuse him of using drugs and he wanted to clear that up, it’s not cocaine, it’s Tourette’s syndrome.
He describes some days as “more painful than others, sometimes it’s quite uncomfortable”, but it “comes and goes” and he can sometimes go months without experiencing it.
According to the Mayo Clinic, Tourette’s syndrome is a disorder “that involves repetitive movements or unwanted sounds (tics) that cannot be easily controlled.”
