For more than 65 years, firefighters from Chesapeake, Norfolk, Portsmouth, Suffolk, Virginia Beach, and Williamsburg have lined the streets near local departments and businesses with their boots to collect donations for the Muscular Dystrophy Association. This year due to the Coronavirus pandemic, the boots will be virtual.
Fire departments from Chesapeake, Norfolk, Portsmouth, Suffolk, Virginia Beach, and Williamsburg all rolled into Chesapeake City Park recently to share the special announcement about changes to this year’s “Fill the Boot” campaign.
Firefighters have been “Filling the Boot” for the Muscular Dystrophy Association for more than 65-years now. Since 1954, the International Association of Fire Fighters (IAFF) has supported MDA with unwavering drive and relentless passion. During this period, our nation’s heroes have raised more than 550-million dollars for MDA. Dollars collected in boots throughout the decades are translating into game-changing research progress today. Because of your support, three new drugs for neuromuscular diseases have been recently approved, and more are expected in the next five years than in the past five decades.
