Jim Long

Morning News

Jim Long has lived in South Carolina and Tennessee but calls Amherst, Virginia, his hometown.  Jim got his start in radio in the mid-80's at the ten-watt campus station of Longwood College (now Longwood University).  He worked briefly at WLVA-AM and WYYD-FM in Lynchburg before hooking up with WCMS-FM in Virginia Beach in 1992.  He was the voice of afternoon news for eight years and the morning news anchor for three more with WCMS.

Jim is handy with computers and enjoys sports ("still perfecting my jump shot," he says), working in the yard, and reading science fiction novels.  Other hobbies include bird watching, photography, and entertaining the kids with cartoon voices.

Favorites include Everybody Loves Raymond, the Miami Dolphins, The Empire Strikes Back, and  pepperoni pizza.

Jim lives in Virginia Beach with his wife, Mary, a 7th grade English teacher, and two daughters, Megan and Delaney.  The family shares their home with three cats named Gandalf, Penny and Candy.
